Starry Eyed

July 29th, 2008 John View Comments

Jay Ryan and MeToday’s podcast features an interview I did with Jay Ryan, live, as I passed through Cleveland on my way home from the Geeks & God Web 2.0 Conference. We talked about upcoming events in the night sky as well as his astronomy curriculum: Signs & Seasons. I also talk a little bit about the conference and the ensuing aftermath. And, some congratulations are in order for the Two Blind Squirrels podcast.

On the “EVE” of Commercial Spaceflight

July 29th, 2008 John View Comments

EVEVirgin Galactic has unveiled the White Knight 2 , aka “EVE”, which will ferry Space Ship 2 and it’s wealthy clientele looking for the thrill if space flight. Believe me when I say that if I had the ducats I would be all over this like a corn dog on a stick. The thrill of flying out of our atmosphere and seeing the earth curve below me is one I hope to eventually experience in my lifetime,

Christened “EVE” in honor of Sir Richard’s mother, who performed the official naming ceremony, WK2 is both visually remarkable and represents ground-breaking aerospace technology. It is the world’s largest all carbon composite aircraft and many of its component parts have been built using composite materials for the very first time. At 140 ft, the wing spar is the longest single carbon composite aviation component ever manufactured.

How about you? Would you take a flight into space if it were offered to you free of charge? Let’s say Richard Branson knocked on your door and said, “Hey, someone bailed out on us and we need to fill a seat. It’s your if you want it,” would you squeak with glee as I would?

You can get more information about “EVE” at Virgin Galactic’s website as well as the press release and photos.

Rocking the Mic with Geeks & God

July 25th, 2008 John View Comments

Rocking the micI had the opportunity to join Bob & Matt on their podcast, Geeks & God while at the Geeks & God Web 2.0 Conference. We kicked back outside while recording this podcast. We got inside just before the killer mosquitoes descended upon us.

I had a great time at the conference, met a lot of really cool people and had a blast on the podcast. In this podcast we talk about the importance of ministry leaders and workers going to a conference to meet with people who are like-minded in their gifts and talents as well as their faith. Enjoy!

Change of Schedule

A quick podcast about the change in the podcasting schedule for this month.

PIDRadio Goes off the Air

July 16th, 2008 John View Comments

PID Radio EndingAll good things must come to an end. I don’t know who said that but it’s a fact of life. PIDRadio (previously Peering Into Darkness and MythArc radio) has closed it’s doors.

Well, not entirely. They full body of their work will be available online but there will be no new podcasts coming from their bunker on the 39th parallel. Derek and Sharon feel that they have done everything they originally set out to do and feel that now is the time for them to stop podcasting.

I’m glad to say that I was there when it all started. I have listened to every episode they’ve ever produced and found them very entertaining and informative. I wish Derek & Sharon well in their future endeavors as authors and say, “God speed.” You will be missed.

Now I have a 1 hour hole in my podcasting schedule to fill up. Any suggestions?
