What Every Church’s Website Needs
This week there’s no intro and outro, I get right into things (mainly because I forgot to add them and don’t want to be bothered to add them back in). I have a new sponsor, GoToAssist Express, check them out at www.GotoAssist.com/techpodcast.
So what does every church website need? In my opinion every church website should feature these elements above the fold (meaning, you a visitor shouldn’t have to scroll down to see this)
- Your church’s address
- Your church’s phone number
- Your church’s email address
- Your church’s service times
- Your church’s latest event information
- A link to directions to your church
- A link to weekly events (bible studies, fellowships, etc.)
- The latest sermon and/or current series information
Links mentioned in the podcast:
- Apple updates their Macs
- 12 cool new Windows 7 features that aren’t in the beta
- Safari will be 1st browser hacked at CanSecWest
- Out of cycle MS update

Hey John. Love the podcast. Just wanted to share a thought I had while listening to the podcast. Wouldn’t having your e-mail on the webpage be an invitation for more spam? Our church uses a contact form. Would this work in your opinion? Just curious. Keep up the great work.
Kwang,
You bring up a good point. There are ways to protect an email address on a website from being grabbed by spammer & spambots, of course, just like a form they’re not 100% effective. Also, a good spam filter will eliminate 90% of the junk out there. I think it’s a decision each church needs to make for themselves. Personally, I like to know the email address and be able to store it and contact the church without having to visit it’s website. Thanks for your comment.
thanks for the podcast and great tips!
