Critical Pathfinder

This week features part one of an interview I did with Winston Crutchfield, fellow podcaster and publisher of the book Pathfinder which documents the role of Native Americans in World War II, including articles about the 82nd Airborne, Navajo Code Talkers, ceremonial dances in the South Pacific, and an oral history from 1st Sgt Hilton.

Part of the proceeds from Pathfinder benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, so you can support our veterans by purchasing a copy today.

01_obamaspeechintroyPresident Obama visited HVCC today and spoke about the economy and how it has affected areas like upstate NY. He spoke about how HVCC and other colleges in the area are the future of education in the country so that we can participate in a global economy.

As a homeschooler I have a different point of view when it comes to the future of education in our country and preparing students for college. I share that in today’s walk and talk. This is actually the second one I’ve done. The previously recorded on will be released at a later date.

Obama visits HVCC

President Obama is visiting a local community college, HVCC, here in upstate NY today. This is an invitation-only affair which will go down in about two hours from now where Pres. Obama plans to address the importance of community colleges as well as programs for alternative energy, something HVCC is well-known for in the area.

Twitter is buzzinghttp://twitter.com/#search?q=obamahvcc about the visit, as expected, and there are a number of places where you can watch the online. Here are a few:

Local websites are being over-loaded already. It will be interesting to see if any of them can stay online during the speech, I hope so.

This is the problem with the current state of broadband in our nation. It gets easily overloaded and the all-too-common “buffering” message is becoming a staple of the online experience. I don’t think bigger tubes will solve the problem, we just need smarter tubes.

Dr. Horrible at the Emmys

If you thought that streaming video, social media, blogs and Twitter were just for geeks, think again. The appearance of Dr. Horrible at the Emmys has seared social media in the public’s conscience. [via Mashable]

Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, the musical short film produced for Internet distribution, got a cameo appearance in tonight’s Emmys thanks to host (and Dr. Horrible star) Neil Patrick Harris.

Harris, while lauding the Internet as the “future of home entertainment”, mocks small screen sizes and the familiar “buffering” message.
