Some students and parents in the Lower Merion school district in PA did and their paranoia turned out to be justified.
Turns out, IT admins in the school district have been enabling a feature in the theft-recovery software installed on every computer that allows them to take a picture using the built-in webcam.
This will be a three part series so I hope that you’ll check all of them out.
Here’s a teaser:
Choosing the right technology platform for your church is very important, and choosing the wrong one can lead to excruciating long-term consequences (and heart ache!).
It’s safe to say that every pastor or technology volunteer in a church has been faced with the question, “Mac or PC?” at some time in their decision to purchase new computers for their church.
In some cases the decision is very easy to make but in others it can be a downright doctrinal issue that’s more divisive than the color of the church’s carpet. While we here at ChurchIT don’t have all of the answers we hope to provide you with a little guidance in make you decision a little bit easier next time.
Thanks to the staff over at the 8Bit Network for taking me on as a guest writer, kinds words, and excellent editing skill-fu.
On today’s podcast I respond to some email and voice mail as well as talk about some exciting news in the SSD arena. I provide instructions for “upgrading” from Windows 7 RC1 or Beta to the final release and end with some spiritual know-how for the first day of Lent.
You may already know that I’ve chosen to help Compassion International this year by organizing and producing a podcast: Compassion365. The goal is to raise awareness and funds for Compassion International. Given the recent earthquake in Haiti, I’ve become more determined to help.
I’m not about seeing how much money can be raised specifically through Compassion365. If people sponsor a child, tell a friend about Compassion or attend this concert then I’m happy. God’s will is being done here and I’m pleased because God is pleased (Matthew 25:40).
If you live in Nashville or Los Angeles, I encourage you to buy tickets to this concert. If you can’t go, give them to someone who can. I’m sure it will be an amazing experience. If you’re not close enough to attend, gather some friends and watch it online.
“Help Haiti Live” is a multi-city ticketed concert event taking place on February 27th, 2010 to benefit Compassion International’s Haiti disaster relief fund. The event will also be streamed live at HelpHaitiLive.com for those who cannot attend one of the concerts in person.
100% of on-line donations through HelpHaitiLive.com will go to Compassion International’s Haiti disaster relief fund. 100% of net proceeds from ticket sales will go to Compassion International’s Haiti disaster relief fund.
“Help Haiti Live” is a production of Shaun Groves and Synergy Production Group and is not under the ownership of Compassion International.
If you’re on the go a lot and want to be able to quickly update your blog because you saw something that needs more than 140 to describe then WordPress for Blackberry is the app you’re looking for.
WordPress for Blackberry allows you to have access to your blog and post a new article or update an existing one. You can even attach a photo or video to your post (more on that later). You can tag your posts appropriately, even create a new one. Additionally, you can add an excerpt for mega-SEO goodness. Also included is a spell-checker which I’ve found to be quite useful because my thumbs occasionally get crossed. Interestingly, the spell-checker doesn’t recognize ‘WordPress’. Comment moderation is also possible. WordPress for Blackberry gives you the option of saving your post locally (on your Blackberry) or uploading it to your blog for review, as a draft, private or published post. It doesn’t, however, allow you to schedule a post (something I find frustrating).
The best feature of WordPress for Blackberry is the ability to attach photos and video to your post (3GP is not supported by WordPress so I don’t understand the point of this option3GP is now supported in the 1.0 version). See something cool happening? Take a picture and quickly have it posted on your blog. No need to configure a 3rd-party plug-in or app to have it post automatically and then go back and edit the post because it got munged. You can resize your photos down to 640×480 to speed up your post. Images and videos can only be placed at the top or bottom of your post and you cannot use a thumbnail with images. More resizing options or the ability to upload and link to a thumbnail would make this a truly powerful app.
All-in-all, WordPress for Blackberry makes updating your blog a breeze and I highly recommend it. If your posts appear in a column that’s narrower than 640 pixels, you may want to avoid posting photos. The only features missing are the ability to add hyperlinks and schedule your posts. WordPress for Blackberry is a solid app and every blogger with a Blackberry should be using it. WordPress is also available on the iPhone.
Finally, yes, this entire post was originally composed using my Blackberry (with the exception of the images) and uploaded as a draft. I did make a few other minor changes (like this one) before finally publishing this article.
Note: I’m aware that the 1.0 version has now been released and there are some significant changes. I will provide a 2nd review once I’ve had time to thoroughly run it through its paces.
I have too many irons in the fire this week which leaves me with no time to podcast. I did want to give you a brief update, however, on what’s going on in my world so I recorded something quickly on my new Zoom H2 recorder. Read more…
So there I was, editing the audio in Audacity and I changed the sample rate to see what would happen. It turned the audio into the chipmunk style of audio. I decided ‘what the heck’ and uploaded it like that. Enjoy. We talk about foam battles, larping, and more! If you would like to leave […]
