Christmas in 3D

November 18, 2010 — 3 Comments

Would you be more likely to attend a church service if it were in 3D?  What about your neighbors? Is this the kind of church service that would interest James Cameron?

Church by the Glades is holding 20 Christmas services in 3D.  I don’t know how useful or beneficial this is but it does seem like a cool way to use technology.

Members can hand out special invitations to give to their neighbors. Each invitation has a special marker that is used at Church by the Glades’ special 3D website to play a special invitational video.

When the site views the special marker via a person’s webcam the invitation is displayed.  It’s hard wrap your head around this so here’s a demonstration:

So what do you think? Is this a good thing or a bad thing or are you indifferent?

I think it’s actually pretty awesome. I already want to check it out. Gives me that feeling like I will miss out if I don’t participate, so from a marketing point, it’s right on target :)

Seems kinda gimmicky to me. Still, it’s nice to see churches embracing technology. Although it seems like you need a huge congregation to do something like this.

It does have that James Cameron gimmick to it, but if it helps connect people then whatever it takes I suppose. I do think it’s a big budget operation and most churches probably can’t implement this but it’s interesting to see how churches are embracing innovation.
