Blackberry has released another video comparing the PlayBook to the iPad

Speed and acid tests aside, this really doesn’t do much for me.  The PlayBook is being compared to the current iPad.  By the time the Playbook is released it’s quite possible there will be a new iPad.

I am glad that Apple has a competitor in the market, however.  While I don’t think that the PlayBook will take away from Apple’s tight-fisted grip on the tablet market, I do think the PlayBook will help drive innovation in the tablet-space.

I’m cautiously optimistic about the Blackberry Playbook since it’s announcement. While I’d like to see it succeed, I doubt it will exert any pressure on the iPad in terms of market penetration and widespread adoption.  I don’t see a business use that this device meets except to make the executives at Blackberry-only companies feel included in the tablet club.

Think the PlayBook will smash the iPad or is it doomed for the museum of products that never were?  Sound off in the comments below!

Bored? Play Pac-man

November 17, 2010 — Leave a comment

For the 30th anniversary of Pac-man, Google displayed a custom Pac-man game in place of their regular logo.  Using a really spiffy plug-in, I’m able to provide you the same retro-gaming experience here.  You can get the Google Pac-man for WordPress plugin too and install it on your blog.

Controls are simple: use the arrow keys to move the pac-man around and click the link twice to include a 2nd player (which uses the A,S,W,D keys to move around).

If you want to play with two players click the link twice.  Get ready for 255 levels of power pellet fun!

RGB to Hex Color Converter

November 17, 2010 — 1 Comment

Occasionally you will have the need to convert RGB color values to Hex color values. OK, maybe you won’t but I do.

People who are a lot savvier than I know how to do this in their heads or have really cool gizmotrons to get this done.

I’ve always turned to my good friend Google. My good friend Google always recommends http://www.javascripter.net/faq/rgbtohex.htm

It’s a simple little bit of javascript your could put in an html file and drop somewhere on your site but I just find it hard to crush an old habit.

What about you? Do you have any simple tools that can help a fellow blogger?  Leave a comment below.

Google Voice is now a native iOS app. It’s a great little app and if you get tons of voice mail and want to quickly triage your Inbox this is the best way to do it when you’re on the go.

Access your Google Voice account right from your iPhone.

Receive push notifications for new text or voicemail messages.

Send free text messages to U.S. numbers and make international calls at cheap rates.

Listen to your voicemail, read transcripts and manage your Google Voice inbox.

Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls.

Call contacts from your iPhone Address Book or enter new numbers on the dialpad.

I’ve used it and it delivers. Download Google Voice for iOS today!

There, I said it. I’m addicted to GetGlue. The first step in recovery is admitting you have a problem, right?

“What is GetGlue,” you ask? I’ll let them explain:

GetGlue is a social network for entertainment, with more than 10M new unique ratings and check-ins for tv shows, movies, music and books every month. GetGlue users rate and check-in to things they like to get recommendations and earn rewards.

It’s a way to share what you like (or dislike) with those in your social network. You earn stickers when you check-in to TV shows, movies, books and more. Earn enough stickers and GetGlue will mail you physical copies of said stickers. At the time of this post, I have 68 stickers:

Crazy, right?

I’m a collector at heart. If I could, I’d collect all kinds of things (I used to have about 20 computers in my basement). GetGlue allows me to collect without spending money and taking up space in my house. It’s something that really vibes with me.

What about you? What crazy thing do you do that people around you don’t understand?
